Asian Grocery Clerk

Purpose:  To keep the Asian Food department fully and attractively stocked, provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service and maintain a presence in the department at all times.

Status:  Reports to Asian Grocery Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES

Stocking

  1. Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves.
  2. Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock or short coded items.
  3. Pull and record damaged products and returns following established procedures.
  4. Notify management of out-of-stocks and perform inventories when necessary.
  5. Receive and process all orders, notifying Supervisor of all discrepancies (i.e. damaged or shorted items) and recording them as set forth by Buyer.
  6. Inform Supervisor of mislabeled products or missing/inaccurate shelf tags or sales signs and fill out the appropriate tag request form for the Point of Sale department.

Department Maintenance

  1. Keep shelves, coolers, and warehouse in clean, orderly condition.
  2. Remove packing materials to recycling and bale all cardboard to keep the aisle free of debris.
  3. Adhere to safe food handling practices.
  4. Participate in quarterly inventory.

Customer Service

  1. Assist customers with special order requests in prompt, friendly and courteous manner.
  2. Assist customers with product questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary. Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to use products.
  3. Report customer suggestions, comments and complaints to Supervisor.
  4. Stock and maintain displays fully to give feeling of abundance.
  5. Follow security procedures. Alert management or Loss Prevention of potential shoplifters, disorderly customers, and other emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
  2. Experience serving the public.
  3. Ability to work independently as well as a positive team member.
  4. Familiarity with Asian foods and their uses.
  5. Communications skills- good listening, and able to give clear instructions.
  6. Enthusiasm and motivation for learning and updating product knowledge
  7. Ability to handle multiple demands.
  8. Accuracy and attention to detail.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  2. Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  3. Basic math skills required.
  4. Able to understand written and spoken English.
